Code of Connection


Government Connect (GC) is a strategic partnership between national government and the local government community. Through the partnership of the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), Communities and Local Government (CLG), the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) and the local government community, a secure IT infrastructure is currently being rolled out to support better collaboration between central government departments and local authorities.


What is the Purpose of the CoCo

The Code of connection has been put in place to develop the trust required both within and between communities therefore allows more effective use of shared systems and services. It prrovides a minimum set of security standards that organisations must adhere to when joining the GSi, drawing heavily on technical policy developed by CESG Also reflects wider industry best practice (e.g. ISO 27001)


What is in the CoCo?

A set of control statements based on best practice in security management (e.g. ISO 27001) Security management structure Security policy statement in place Audit, anti virus etc. Some controls are a ‘MUST’ and some ‘SHOULD’. All the MUST controls need to be met for CoCo acceptance The SHOULDS, if not already met, should be shown as working towards Based on an assessment by connecting organisation and signed off by: Local security officer Section 151 officer GC will audit compliance. There are precedents for disconnection.
